Why are they called funeral potatoes?
Funeral potatoes, also known as “church potatoes,” are a type of potato casserole that is often served at potlucks, family gatherings, and, as the name suggests, funerals.
Ingredients:
2 lbs small potatoes (such as baby potatoes or new potatoes)
4 tablespoons melted butter
1 cup grated cheese (such as cheddar or mozzarella)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon dried oregano or parsley (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Additional cheese and herbs for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
Wash and dry the potatoes, then cut them into small bite-sized pieces.
In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, cheese, and spices.
Place the potato pieces in a single layer on a baking sheet and coat them with the butter mixture.
Bake the potatoes for 20-25 minutes, or until they are crispy and tender.
Serve the crack potatoes hot, garnished with additional cheese and herbs if desired.
Enjoy!
