Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

Using a bean pot or a casserole Arrange your beans in a 2 quart dish by placing a portion of the beans in the bottom of the dish, then layer them with onion and bacon.

combine salt, molasses, pepper, dry mustard, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and brown sugar all together in a saucepan. When the mixture starts to boil, pour it over your beans. Pour in just enough of the reserved bean water to cover the beans. Cover the dish with aluminum foil.

Bake until the beans are tender, for 3 to 4 hours in the preheated oven, Remove the lid about halfway through cooking, add more liquid if you notice the beans are getting too dry.

This comforting, homey dish is delightfully flavored with salt pork molasses, onion, dry mustard and sugar. Boston baked beans have been made this way for centuries and never contain even a hint of tomato! They are the perfect picnic food and pair well with grilled chicken, also hamburgers and hot dogs.
